Developed by Simple Machine, The Outcast is an interactive narrative, a modern choose-your-own-adventure, all on your phone. As co-writer, I developed the unique writing style currently used in The Outcast and continue to add more to the game daily.
Unique writing style? For The Outcast, we couldn't use a typical method of storytelling. Due to the device (mobile) and method of event scheduling (notifications), we needed something different. We needed a writing style that was compact, yet full of meaning. I started with my favorite writer, Hemingway, and observed his lean, tight prose. Simple sentences with a punch. Action drives The Outcast, it's only fitting that our syntax use the same formula.
